Mount Street’s character and charm feels like going back in time

Mount Street Apartments

Designing within heritage assets is often about looking for opportunity and ensuring the viability and usefulness of historic buildings in the present and into the future whilst conserving their essential cultural value as part of our cities.

On charming Mount Street in London’s Mayfair is this range of Grade II Listed shops with apartments above, designed in a flamboyant Franco-Flemish Renaissance style by architect Albert J. Bolton at the end of the nineteenth century. At numbers 97 to 99 our challenge centres on configuring the four rental apartments the building contains into ones suited to contemporary living yet in sympathy with the hierarchy of its original rooms.

Finding a sensitive means to insert a new internal stair resolves issues of fire escape at the same time opening opportunity for creating a roof terrace, adding a premium to the property rental value.
