Bringing stories from the past
to life in the present

Pennethorne’s, Somerset House

A memorable experience starts with the discovery of what’s commonly unknown. At this café bar in London’s Somerset House that unknown happens to be Sir James Pennethorne, architect of the New Wing of this historic building.

The early nineteenth century saw the youthful Sir James embark on his Grand Tour: through France and on to Italy. That journey is fittingly reimagined through the food, wine, art, and objects of this his eponymous restaurant.

Sensitively conserved interiors are overlaid with contemporary insertions, bringing past and present together into dialogue.
