Claire Bingham has featured SHH interior design in her new book exploring contemporary Art Deco Interiors. The book delves into striking modern examples inspired by the period, including, The Wolseley, Hotel Saint-Marc and SHH’s Chester Terrace. The book is written in three languages, side by side English, German and French, emphasising the mass appeal of Art Deco. Throughout the book, Bingham includes quotes from Art Deco experts, giving an interesting and varied view.
Originally spanning the 1920’s and 1930’s, art deco encompasses tradition and progression with a lively eclecticism. The movement was inspired by a number of historical events such as the ending of world war I (1918), the launch of Bauhaus (1919) and the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb (1922). The popular trend can be characterised by its bold and precise geometric shapes in symmetrical arrangements, combined with strong, vibrant colours. Art deco is mainly used in the fields of architecture, interiors, graphics, textiles, furniture and fashion.
