Like many countries, China invests in life sciences for the advancement of human health. In parallel is its peoples everyday use of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Conventionally treated as binary opposites, this development for advanced medical research takes the bold step of bringing the two together on one campus.
Edged with canals, the extensively landscaped campus recognises the health benefits of access to nature, acknowledged by both forms of medicine. In the developments marketing suite and co-working space, it’s the relationship with nature which our design responds to, partly through material choice, and reinforced by the decision to establish a full-sized tree within the open light well on this buildings second floor, bringing nature into the very centre of the workplace, for benefit of everyone.
